GP 2001 Results 1st Leg (Hong Kong) CUBA vs Brazil The Cubans lost 2-3 to their arch rivals, Brazil. The scores were : 25-16, 18-25, 25-22, 13-25, 7-15. The main players on court were Yumilka Ruiz (capt), Ana Fernandez, Zoila Barros, Martha Sanchez, Liana Mesa and Anniara Munoz. Torres substituted Mesa in the middle of the 3rd set. Misleidis Martinez also got a chance to play in the 4th set. Sanchez was the top scorer among the Cubans with 16 points. CUBA vs Japan To my dismay, the Cubans lost 1-3 to the Japanese. Just a few months back, they beat the Japanese in the BCV tournament 3-1, but the tables were turned this time. Reports blame bad reception on the Cubans' part for this loss. The scores: 23-25, 25-16, 16-25, 21-25. Yumilka was the top scorer this time with 21 points. CUBA vs China The worse performance by the Cubans, or maybe the best performance by the opponents. The Cubans lost in straight sets. 20-25, 17-25, 22-25. What is happening ?? China has inexperienced players and yet they beat Cuba. Maybe we can put the blame on jetlag ?? Please Cuba -- wake up for the next round !!!!!!
